Kyiv may resort to provocation to discredit Donbas militia before Eastern Partnership summit - militia leader

DONETSK. May 15 (Interfax) - Kyiv is preparing acts of provocation in the run-up to an Eastern Partnership summit in Riga, says Eduard Basurin of the defense ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk people's republic (DPR).

"Our secret agent intelligence shows that the Ukrainian Security Service started today to implement a weekly plan of perpetrating a series of terrorist attacks, so as to accuse us of crimes against humanity in Riga," Basurin told journalists on Friday.

In particular, such attacks could be committed on the motor roads between Mariupol and Volodarske and between Pryvilne and Kasyanivka, and also in the area of the community of Stary Krym, he said.

"Landmine blasts or artillery shots at buses and cars carrying civilians are possible at these places within the next few days," Basurin said.

He also pointed out that Kyiv has lately been accusing the DPR of violating the ceasefire increasingly more often.

"I am declaring officially that we are meticulously abiding by all provisions of the Minsk agreements. At the same time, we record these violations by the Ukrainian side on a daily basis. By declaring its commitment to the peace plan for settling the conflict in Donbas in word, Kyiv is purposefully continuing to escalate the situation in deed," Basurin said.

"The Ukrainian authorities are only searching for a pretext to resume large-scale combat," he said.

The Eastern Partnership summit is scheduled for May 21-22 in Riga.
