SEOUL. May 19 (Interfax) - State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin has presented the Northeast Asian History Foundation with copies of the documents kept in Russian archives during his official visit to the Republic of Korea.

"Among these documents is a copy of the letter from the Korean King Gojong to the Russian Tsar Nicholas II, expressing the cordial thankfulness and sincere loyalty for providing him with security at the Russian mission in Seoul in 1897," Naryshkin said at a roundtable in Seoul on Tuesday, which focused on the historical and cultural aspects of the Russian-Korean relations.

Russia is extremely interested in joint research by our two countries' historians and in popularizing history and joint history, the State Duma chairman stressed.

"History should be researched, primarily, on the basis of archived documents so that our people, especially young ones, know the history as it really was," the politician said.
