Consular officials have yet to meet with two Russians held in Luhansk region - Russian Embassy in Kyiv

KYIV. May 21 (Interfax) - The Russian Embassy to Ukraine has said the Ukrainian authorities have been barring Russian consular officials from meeting the two Russians held in Luhansk region on May 16 for three days now.

"This is already the third day that we have been waiting for Ukrainians' permission for our consular officials to visit Yevgeny Yerofeyev and Alexander Alexandrov, who were held in Luhansk region. Despite all the efforts being made by the Embassy, permission for the meeting has yet to be granted," a spokesperson for the Russian Embassy to Ukraine told Interfax on Thursday.

The arrested Russians, currently held at the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's Main Clinic Hospital in Kyiv, were visited by representatives from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) mission on Wednesday, following which the mission deputy head, Alexander Hug, informed the Russian Embassy in Kyiv that the arrested men would like to meet with embassy representatives, the spokesperson said.

"Mr Hug promised all kinds of assistance in dealing with this issue. We hope Ukraine will take account of the position of the OSCE mission," the spokesperson said.
