Syrian opposition expects arrival of 'negotiators from Geneva' - source
ASTANA. May 25 (Interfax) - Syrian opposition forces convening in Astana are awaiting the arrival of negotiators form Geneva, a Syrian delegation member told Interfax on Monday.
"A representative of the negotiating parties from Geneva is expected to pay a visit," he said.
He noted that both domestic and external opposition forces were engaged in the negotiations.
Negotiations between Syrian opposition forces began in Astana on Monday. The Kazakh Foreign Ministry said the private discussions would last through May 27.
Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrisov is attending the negotiations.
A group of Syrian opposition forces asked Kazakhstan to mediate negotiations on the Syria crisis resolution.
Kazakhstan expressed concern at the extremely severe humanitarian situation in Syria and declared its opinion that the inter-Syrian conflict could only be resolved peacefully and by the Syrians themselves. It decided to provide a platform for dialogue between Syrian opposition forces and created conditions for the successful staging of negotiations, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry reported.
