Baku to build relations with EU on equal, bilateral basis - foreign minister
MOSCOW. May 25 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has said that at the recent Eastern Partnership summit in Riga he delivered a new version of a strategic partnership agreement to European Union officials.
"Azerbaijan is building its relations with the European Union at the level of bilateral relations, and in Riga I handed over copies of the latest strategic partnership agreement between Azerbaijan and the EU to the [EU] Commissioner for Enlargement, Johannes Hahn, and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini," he said after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Monday.
Baku is set to develop its relations with the EU on a bilateral and equal basis, he said.
"Overall, I think that the path we have chosen for bilateral development of our relations with the European Union is backed by many parameters, including energy, transport, and investment," Mammadyarov said.
"The strategic partnership agreement, which has been offered to Brussels, is first and foremost an equal and mutually advantageous one," the Azeri minister said.
"It is in this framework that we will build our relations with the EU," he added.
