Russian AgMin might consider restricting dry milk powder imports
MOSCOW. May 26 (Interfax) - The Russian Agriculture Ministry might consider restricting dry milk powder imports, Agriculture Minister Alexander Tkachev said at a meeting with investors.
"We might think about limiting dry milk imports," he said, commenting on complaints by investors about the amount of counterfeit products on the market.
He said the use of milk powder affected the quality of products.
The Agriculture Ministry, quoting Federal Customs Service (FCS) data, has said Russia cut powered milk and cream imports 47.8% last year to 23,900 tonnes ($99.4 million), from 41,200 tonnes ($75.1 million) in 2013.
Tkachev also called for "more radical measures" with respect to imports of palm oil and for the experience of other countries to be used here. Dairy products ought to be made from milk, he said.
Some producers have been using palm oil as a substitute for milk fact to reduce the cost of products, and have not been informing consumers of this.
