Norway unwilling to cooperate on problems of children adopted from Russia - diplomat

MOSCOW. May 26 (Interfax) - The Norwegian government's "Russophobic" attitudes have an impact on the condition of children adopted to this country from Russia, says Russian Foreign Ministry Human Rights Commissioner Konstantin Dolgov.

Various problems have been piling up in Norway, and there are very few positive examples of successful adoptions from Russia, Dolgov said. "The Norwegian authorities' Russophobic line is going overboard, and this has a negative effect on the children's dossier," Dolgov said at a meeting of the Russian presidential coordinating council for the implementation of a national action strategy on Tuesday.

Russia has urged Norway through government channels to consider setting up a working mechanism to prevent unlawful actions toward children adopted from Russia, he said.

"But the Norwegian authorities, unfortunately, do not support our initiatives, and the authorities of Norway agree to other forms of cooperation with us," Dolgov said.

Nevertheless, Russia will continue working with Norway on these issues, he said.
