Snap drills held hundreds of kilometers from border with Ukraine - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. May 28 (Interfax) - The Russian Defense Ministry has commented on a statement by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that Russia is ostensibly using the snap drills to conceal troop redeployment to Ukraine.

"Once again we have to explain to our partners in Washington and Brussels that the training areas in Ashuluk and Kapustin Yar, where the drills are taking place, are nearly 800 kilometers away from southeastern Ukraine. And the Pemboi training range is in northern Russia, almost 3,000 kilometers from Donetsk," the ministry's spokesman, Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov, told reporters on Thursday.
