State Duma committee denies drawing up election rescheduling inquiry to Constitutional Court

MOSCOW. May 29 (Interfax) - The State Duma Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Development does not possess any materials related to the possible inquiry to the Constitutional Court about moving parliament elections from December to September 2016, Committee Chairman Vladimir Pligin has said.

"The committee does not have materials of this sort and is not preparing such inquiries to the Constitutional Court," Pligin told Interfax on Friday.

It was reported earlier in the day that the committee was drawing up the inquiry and United Russia, A Just Russia and the Liberal Democratic Party had signed that document.

An inquiry eligible for being lodged with the Constitutional Court needs to be signed by at least 90 deputies.

Communist Party faction member, Communist Party Central Committee Secretary Vadim Solovyov told Interfax earlier that almost all signatures had been collected and the Communist Party was the only one refusing to put its signature under the document.

The topic of rescheduling the 2016 parliament elections became a focal point after the option had been publicly declared by Liberal Democratic Party leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky, and State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin and Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko actually supported the idea. For instance, Naryshkin said that the shift was "possible and reasonable."
