Ukrainian police probing another sabotage attack on Odessa railway

KYIV. June 4 (Interfax) - An explosion on the Odessa railway while a freight train was passing by has been qualified by police as an act of sabotage.

This accident has been qualified as sabotage, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Interior Ministry Main Directorate said on Thursday.

At 2:20 a.m. on June 4 an on-duty police officer received a telephone call about an explosion on the 1,483rd kilometer on the stretch of line between the Dachnoye and Vygoda stations (Odessa region) on the Odessa railway.

"Operation Explosive was immediately put in place. A team of investigators and bomb disposal experts travelled to the scene. The explosion occurred under the railcar N15 of a freight train that was passing by. As a result, three empty cars derailed. No one was killed or injured," the spokesperson said.

The explosive devices were planted in two places: on odd-numbered and even-numbered routes. The explosion damaged two 90-centimeter-long reinforced-concrete rails, 50-centimeter pieces of railways are missing.

As a result of the explosion, two craters have formed on the railways, 150 centimeter in diameter and 40 centimeters deep. Total power of the explosive device was equivalent to around 10 kilograms of TNT.

The explosion caused a delay of three passenger trains. Now train service has fully resumed.
