KYIV. June 8 (Interfax) - Eleven police officers were injured in clashes after a March of Equality in Kyiv on June 6; six people are suspected of wrongdoing.
"By June 7, eleven police officers have been recognized as injured. Seven people have been held and notified about suspicion," Ukrainian Interior Ministry spokesman Artiom Shevchenko said at a briefing in Kyiv on Monday.
The suspects are facing criminal charges of "hooliganism" and "challenging a law enforcement officer," he said.
One of the suspects is "a fighter of one of the Interior Ministry battalions," Shevchenko said.
It was reported earlier that nine police officers had been hurt in clashes during a March of Equality organized by the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) community on Obolonska Embankment in Kyiv on June 6. One of the victims is a police officer who is in critical condition, having sustained a fragmentation injury in the neck. He underwent a surgery in Kyiv and is currently at an intensive care unit.
Police have arrested 25 public-order violators who tossed explosives across the police cordon. Police seized from them firecrackers, screwdrivers, knives and other dangerous objects.
