Eight Ukrainian servicemen killed, five wounded in Donbas - staff
KYIV. June 9 (Interfax) - Eight Ukrainian servicemen have been killed in Donbas over the past day, Presidential Administration spokesman for the army operation Andriy Lysenko has said.
"In the past 24 hours, eight Ukrainian servicemen have been killed and five have suffered injuries," Lysenko said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
A truck with seven sappers on board was blown up by a mine near Krasnohorivka on Monday, and all the sappers died, he said.
A Grad rocket launcher modified to fire single shots has been used by the militia in the Mariupol sector, Lysenko continued.
"According to Ukrainian representatives to the Joint Control and Coordination Center [JCCC], the militants have been using Grad-P launchers, also known as Partizans, near Shyrokyne. These Grad launchers are modified to fire single shots," he said.
The information has been confirmed by Ukrainian reconnaissance units. "Judging by the statistics of attacks on our positions, the enemy has accumulated up to five Grad-P launchers in Shyrokyne. These weapons are very easy to hide because of their small size and mobility, but they must be removed from the contact line, considering their caliber and reactive principle of operation," the spokesman noted.
