Moscow court extends Ukrainian pilot Savchenko's detention

MOSCOW. June 10 (Interfax) - Moscow City Court has extended the detention of Ukrainian military servicewoman Nadiya Savchenko, accused in Russia of complicity in the killing of Russian journalists.

Judge Pavel Melekhin granted the investigation's request to extend Savchenko's pretrial detention at a Wednesday hearing, an Interfax correspondent reported from the courthouse.

The judge ruled that Savchenko will remain in custody at least until September 30, concluding that the circumstances that originally served as grounds for ordering the pilot's arrest have not changed, that is, if her pretrial restrictive measure is softened, she could escape prosecution or obstruct the proceedings.

The defense team plans to appeal the ruling.
