Moscow, ICRC call for humanitarian pauses in Yemen to help civilians - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. June 10 (Interfax) - Russia and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have called for humanitarian pauses to be established in Yemen to enable regular supplies of food and medications, the Russian Foreign Ministry said after a meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and the ICRC's Yemeni head Cedrik Schweizer.

"(The pair) acknowledged the need to urgently help the Yemeni civilian population in crisis. In particular, they emphasized the need, as a priority measure, for humanitarian pauses to be established to enable regular supplies of food, medications and fuel to Yemen," the ministry said on its website on Wednesday.

During their conversation, Bogdanov and Schweizer, who is completing his tenure, exchanged their views on various aspects of the critical humanitarian situation in Yemen as a result of the ongoing violent conflict in this country.

In addition, the Russian side especially noted the ICRC's role in resolving Yemen's acute humanitarian crisis.
