Georgian president expresses condolences to families of flood victims in Tbilisi
TBILISI. June 14 (Interfax) - Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili has visited the districts in Tbilisi hit worst by the Saturday night flood.
"It is a great tragedy when you lose a family member," he said to journalists evaluating the situation in the zone of the calamity that resulted in large-scale destruction and loss of life.
He said everything will be restored through joint efforts.
"The situation is difficult but it can be overcome. The streets will be cleared. Everything will be restored. But unfortunately, it is impossible to return the people who fell victim to the elements," Margvelashvili said.
He expressed deep condolences to the near and dear ones of the killed.
The Saturday night flood caused enormous damage to Tbilisi. The local zoo from which part of the animals fled was especially badly hilt.
Several staff members of the zoo died. For instance, Guliko Chitadze who lost her arm two weeks ago as a result of an attack by a tiger died Saturday night saving the animals.
