Flames fade away atop diesel fuel container at oil depot outside Kyiv

KYIV. June 14 (Interfax) - Flames have faded away atop a 900 cubic-meter diesel fuel container at the BRSM-Nafta oil depot in the village of Kryachky outside Kyiv.

"The flames have faded away," said Mykhailo Mayurov, head of the Ukrainian Emergency Situations Service's civil defense department.

"But a fire may break out again," he said.

"Just minor fires are still burning near the 900 cubic-meter leaking gasoline container," he said.

Diesel fuel is being pumped out from two 900 cubic-meter containers at the BRSM-Nafta oil depot and channeled to the neighboring oil depot of the KLO chain of gas filling stations. About 1,400 cubic meters of diesel fuel have been pumped over, the Ukrainian Emergency Situations Service's press office reported on Sunday.

A powerful pumping station is being used to accelerate the pumping. Twelve pieces of equipment are at the scene and 32 in the reserve, Mayurov said.

He also said that five tonnes of sorbent agents have been brought to the oil depot and work is underway to clear away the oil-contaminated soil.

A fire broke out at the BRSM-Nafta oil depot in the village of Kraychky in the Vasylkivskiy district outside Kyiv late on June 8, earlier reports said. Five people were killed in the fire and 15 sustained burns, ten of them were hospitalized. The fire lasted for almost three days. It restarted at 11:50 a.m. on Saturday after a leak went ablaze and spread to a nearby container, which could have lead to an explosion.
