Moscow City Court decides not to send appeal against Nemtsov murder suspect's custody to military court

MOSCOW. June 15 (Interfax) - Moscow City Court on Monday decided not to ask a military court to extend the custody of Zaur Dadayev, suspected of killing the opposition politician Boris Nemtsov, an Interfax correspondent reported.

The court disagreed with the arguments of the suspect's lawyer, Shamsudin Tsakayev, who insisted that Dadayev was a military serviceman at the time of Nemtsov's murder, with which he is being charged.

Prosecutors and investigators said this fact has no effect on the inquiry. "Currently, he is simply a civilian for us. We will decide on the jurisdiction during the approval of the indictment," the prosecutor said.

An investigator told the court that investigative authorities had received a reply from Chechnya that Dadayev was still a military serviceman at the end of February.

Nemtsov was shot dead at Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge in Moscow on February 27.
