Russian foreign minister speaks of Raul Castro's contribution to development of Russian-Cuban relations

MOSCOW. June 15 (Interfax) - Raul Castro, president of the Cuban Council of State, is making a personal contribution to the development of bilateral relations with Russia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"Raul Castro, like Fidel, continues making an invaluable contribution to the strengthening of cooperation between our countries, which has been tested by time and has reached a level of mutually profitable strategic partnership and is oriented at a long-term perspective," Lavrov said at a presentation of an autobiographical book by Raul Castro in Moscow on Monday.

Lavrov said that "the visits by Russian President Vladimir Putin to Cuba in July 2014 gave an extra impetus to comprehensive interaction [between Russia and Cuba]."

The Russian foreign minister recalled that the countries marked the 55th anniversary of the restoration of Russian-Cuban diplomatic relations in May 2015.
