Russia doesn't care who used its loan to Ukraine and how, cares about repayment - Putin
NOVO-OGARYOVO, Moscow region. June 16 (Interfax) - Russia expects Ukraine to repay the loan it received from Moscow during Viktor Yanukovych's presidency, but it will not demand that this loan be cleared earlier than due, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"Our money that we took from our reserve funds was spent on buying Ukraine's sovereign bonds under English law. The money was requested for supporting the budget, primarily for resolving social issues. We don't care who used this money and how, but we do care about the repayment of this money," Putin said at a press conference following negotiations with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto on Tuesday.
"Now that Ukraine's aggregate foreign debt has exceeded 60% of GDP, we are entitled to call in this money early," Putin said. "We are not doing this, considering a difficult economic situation in the country. But we hope to receive this money, as is stipulated by the relevant agreement," he said.
