Suspected accomplice in Nemtsov killing to remain in custody at least until August - court ruling
MOSCOW. June 17 (Interfax) - The Moscow City Court has upheld a lower court's ruling on extending the arrest of Shadid Gubashev, a man suspected of complicity in the killing of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov, until the end of August.
The court ruled on Wednesday to leave a district court ruling on extending Gubashev's arrest unchanged and rejected an appeal by his defense team, an Interfax correspondent reported from the courthouse.
The Moscow City Court had earlier upheld lower court rulings on extending the detention of three other people figuring in the case, namely Zaur Dadayev, Temirlan Eskerkhanov, and Khamzat Bakhayev.
It was reported earlier that the Moscow City Court had rejected a motion filed by the defendants' defense teams to refer the case against them to a military court.
Nemtsov was shot and killed on Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge in Moscow on February 27.
Moscow's Basmanny Court has sanctioned the arrest of five suspects, namely Zaur Dadayev and Anzor Gubashev as the presumed perpetrators of the killing and their suspected accomplices Bakhayev, Shadid Gubashev, and Eskerkhanov. All of them will remain in custody at least until August 28.
Four of the five suspects have denied their role in Nemtsov's murder. Dadayev reportedly confessed to his guilt, as is seen from a directive on his arrest. It was reported later that Dadayev had withdrawn his confession, claiming that he had been abducted by unidentified individuals on March 5 and escorted to the Investigative Committee on March 7 and that his confession had been obtained under pressure.
