Moscow, Central Industrial District to bolster combat capabilities - Defense Ministry
MOSCOW. June 17 (Interfax-AVN) - The Aerospace Defense Troops units stationed in Moscow and the Central Industrial District (CID) will receive about ten Fundament-1 radio engineering unit automation systems and Podlyot-K radar stations, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"By 2020, new radar stations and systems will make up 80% of the equipment in service in the radio engineering regiments, which provide air defense for the Moscow zone. Automation systems will account for 100%," the ministry said in a press release obtained by Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.
These measures will help "achieve a significant rise in combat capabilities of the existing group of radio engineering troops of the Air Defense and Missile Defense Command of the Aerospace Defense Troops," the statement reads.
Currently, the Aerospace Defense Troops units in Moscow and the CID have around 20 brand new "All-Altitude Detector" (VVO) radar stations. They can simultaneously identify over 100 targets of varying class, including aircraft, helicopters, remotely controlled aerial vehicles and rockets. The radars have a range of up to 400 kilometers at small, medium and high (over 100 kilometers) altitudes, the ministry said.
