UNSC resolution on Srebrenica massacre may fuel tensions in Balkans - Lavrov
ST. PETERSBURG. June 19 (Interfax) - The possible adoption of a UN Security Council draft resolution marking the 20th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre may lead to an escalation of tensions in the Balkans, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said.
"Mr. President and I have discussed the current situation in the UN Security Council, where attempts have been made to push through a resolution dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the events in Srebrenica. This resolution, which is of a totally anti-Serb nature, incorrectly interprets those events even from a judicial standpoint, as well as what received an assessment of the [UN] Security Council earlier," Lavrov after a meeting with Serb Republic (Bosnia and Herzegovina) President Milorad Dodik.
"Beyond any doubt, this resolution will provoke additional ethnic tensions in the Balkans instead of promoting the idea of reconciliation of all people living there," the Russian minister said.
