Putin expresses hope U.S. Congress will back Iran deal
ST. PETERSBURG. June 19 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday expressed hope that the U.S. Congress would support a planned definitive agreement on the Iranian nuclear program and said such a deal "would unquestionably be one of the main achievements" of Barack Obama's tenure as U.S. president.
"We know about debates that are underway in the United States," Putin told the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. Yet he expressed hope that, "despite all the difficulties, the U.S. president will be able to achieve what would unquestionably one of the main achievements of his presidency."
