Putin warns against setting unrealizable terms for Iran
ST. PETERSBURG. June 19 (Interfax) - Russia will support agreements to be reached on the Iranian nuclear program, but it would be counterproductive to demand that Iran comply with some unrealizable terms in order to disrupt the negotiations, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"We are really glad that Iran's position has undergone significant modifications and made it possible to reach the level of agreements that we have today. We will certainly support these agreements," Putin said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Friday.
"The only thing that seems counterproductive to me is purposefully - I'd like to stress it, purposefully, in order to disrupt the agreements - to demand that Iran do some things that are absolutely impossible for it to do and that are insignificant for resolving the main problem, that is, the nonproliferation problem," he said.
