Legitimacy of EU operation in Mediterranean yet to be studied - Peskov

MOSCOW. June 22 (Interfax) - Moscow doubts the legitimacy of the naval operation, which kicked off in the Mediterranean Sea on Monday to prevent illegal immigration.

"Indeed, the legitimacy of the declared and discussed actions remains on the agenda. Understanding of the degree of these actions' compliance with the principles and norms of international law and their conformity with international law and relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council has yet to be achieved," Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters, answering an Interfax question.

"The legitimacy of such decisions has yet to be examined," he said.
