Any agreements with S. Ossetia have no legal foundation - Tbilisi

TBILISI. June 22 (Interfax) - The Georgian Foreign Ministry has condemned the ratification by the Russian State Duma on June 19 of the agreement On Alliance and Integration between Russia and South Ossetia.

"The Tskhinvali region - South Ossetia - is an integral part of Georgia and cannot be an independent subject of international law, and therefore signing any agreements with the Tskhinvali region will have no legal foundation," Georgian Foreign Ministry official David Kereselidze told a briefing on Monday.

"The actions taken by Russia in the occupied regions of Georgia are a step in the direction of the annexation of Georgian territories," he said.

"The Georgian Foreign Ministry calls on the international community to give an appropriate evaluation to the actions taken by the Russian Federation," Kereselidze said.
