Roskomnadzor blocking Consumer Rights Defense Society website

MOSCOW. June 22 (Interfax) - Russia's media watchdog Roskomnadzor has received an order from the Prosecutor General's Office to ban the Consumer Rights Defense Society (OZPP)'s website. Operators are fulfilling this order already.

"We have received the Prosecutor General's Office's order connected with the website OZPP.ru. In full compliance with Federal Law No.398 communication operators are blocking the website in the Russian Federation," Roskomnadzor spokesman Vadim Ampelonsky told Interfax.

It was reported earlier that the Consumer Rights Defense Society, registered as a foreign agent, released a reminder booklet for people traveling to Crimea which says that, "in accordance with international law these territories are occupied."

"A tourist visiting the occupied territory of Crimea without securing the Ukrainian authorities' permit will violate the Ukrainian law on the status of occupied territories," which can entail criminal liability punishable by a term in jail, the booklet says. The OZPP therefore urged tourists to secure the Ukrainian authorities' permit to visit the peninsula.

The Russian Prosecutor General's Office on Monday evening demanded that the organization's website be banned over "violations of the law uncovered in its activities."
