Kazakh leader may visit Mexico in autumn

ASTANA. June 23 (Interfax) - Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrisov and chairperson of the Mexican Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and National Action Party member Gabriela Cuevas have discussed the prospects for further promoting cooperation between the two countries, Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry reported.

Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Mexico is gradually reaching a new level, Idrisov was quoted as saying on Tuesday by the ministry's press release.

"This is proved by the Mexican government's decision to set up its embassy in Astana this year, and we are ready to provide them with any possible assistance in this issue," Idrisov said.

The Kazakh foreign minister also reaffirmed his country's commitment to forging closer economic ties with Mexico, including in petrochemicals, machine building, the mining and metals industry, the textile industry and the food industry.

Idrisov invited leading Mexican companies to work together with Kazakh businesses in agricultural and the food industry.

"Bearing in mind the completion of talks on Kazakhstan's accession to the World Trade Organization, Idrisov proposed signing a convention for the avoidance of double taxation and an agreement on mutual investment protection, as well as discussing the possibility of including Kazakhstan in the Mexican visa electronic authorization system during President Nursultan Nazarbayev's visit to Mexico set for this autumn," the Kazakh Foreign Ministry said.

Cuevas, for her part, noted that Mexico has been closely following Kazakhstan's domestic and international successes and is ready to step up bilateral and multilateral contacts with this country.
