Lavrov, Fabius discuss Mideast, Syria, IS at meeting in Paris

MOSCOW. June 23 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius exchanged opinions on a number of relevant international matters at a meeting on the sidelines of Normandy format negotiations in Paris on Tuesday.

In particular, Lavrov and Fabius "considered the situation in the Middle and Near East and focused their attention on the situation in Syria in the context of the so-called Islamic State's continuing aggressive actions. They acknowledged the importance of more active interaction in combating the terrorist threat," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Lavrov and Fabius also touched upon a number of issues pertaining to bilateral cooperation, it said.
