Russia condemns reservations of CoE convention allowing human organ removal without donors' consent - presidential order
MOSCOW. June 24 (Interfax) - The Russian president has ordered the signing of the Council of Europe Convention against Trafficking in Human Organs.
"Accept the Russian government's proposal to sign the Council of Europe Convention against Trafficking in Human Organs of March 25, 2015," the Russian president said in his decree, which was been posted on the official legal information portal.
At the same time, Russia condemned the inclusion in the convention of reservations allowing the removal of human organs without live donors' consent.
"Russia definitely condemns the inclusion in Article 4 of the convention, despite many countries' objections, of a provision on the possibility of making reservations allowing the removal of human organs without the consent of a live donor," the document says.
Russia regards this item of the convention as "a deviation from the high standards of the Council of Europe in the sphere of human rights, which sabotages the regime of fighting the inhumane crimes stated in it, which is established by the convention, and hopes that the countries joining the convention will refrain from such reservations," the Kremlin said.
