Court arrests Russian-Lithuanian citizen Matajtis on treason suspicion

MOSCOW. June 25 (Interfax) - Russian security agencies have arrested Yevgeny Matajtis, who is both a Russian and Lithuanian citizen, on suspicion of treason, a source familiar with the situation told Interfax.

"Matajtis is suspected of being involved in gathering secret information and passing it abroad, he has already been arrested," the source said.

Moscow's Lefortovo Court Secretary Yulia Skotnikova formally confirmed the arrest to Interfax. "The citizen of Russia and Lithuania, Matajtis, charged under Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code (treason), has been remanded in custody for two months, i.e. until August 24, 2015," Skotnikova said.

The man has the suspect status and the case is classified, so there may be no further details, she said.
