Decision on extradition of banker Pugachyov from UK to Russia may be made in nearest future - sources
MOSCOW/LONDON. June 26 (Interfax) - The British authorities will decide on the issue of the extradition of banker Sergei Pugachyov in the nearest future, sources with knowledge of the situation told Interfax on Friday.
"After being considered by the Crown Prosecution Service, the materials on the extradition of the Mezhprombank founder were sent to a London court, which will make a decision," a source said.
The source said that the Russian authorities requested Pugachyov's extradition from the UK earlier this year.
"The case involving the banker's extradition has now reached the London court. The date on which the extradition request will be considered will be determined in the nearest future," another source said.
Pugachyov, founder and head of a bank that was previously one of Russia's largest banks, now lives in London. In Russia, he is charged with embezzlement and misappropriation of 28 billion rubles of the bank's clients' money and abuse of office in the provision of unrecoverable loans worth 68 billion rubles.
