Former Lenenergo CFO Slepov arrested
ST. PETERSBURG. June 26 (Interfax) - The Moscow District Court of St. Petersburg on Thursday has taken former financial director of OJSC Lenenergo , Denis Slepov, into custody, who is suspected of illegal withdrawing large sums of money from the energy company in the Federal Security Service's (FSS) investigation.
An Interfax correspondent reported that a meeting for the selection of restrictive measures for Slepov proceeded in the closed regime. The investigation petitioned for his detention, basing the initiative in particular on the fact that Slepov's activity touched on the interests of the state and information constituting banking secrets.
The court at a meeting on Thursday detained Slepov for two months, until August 23.
A representative of the prosecutor told journalists during a break in the meeting that the court was presented documents that gave basis for suspecting Slepov of committing crimes.
Slepov was detained yesterday.
The press service of the Russian Internal Affairs Ministry said earlier that investigators from the FSS branch for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region began a criminal case on the misuse of authority in the withdrawal of monetary assets worth more than 1.4 billion rubles from the control of Lenenergo.
Those suspected in the case are the former executives of OJSC Lenenergo, and also managers of Tavrichesky bank. The workplaces and residences of the suspects were searched, objects and documents meaningful to the case were seized.
