Two policemen shot near Odessa beach, one dead - Interior Ministry
KYIV. June 27 (Interfax) - Two members of a police patrol unit on duty sustained gunshot wounds near the Arcadia beach in Odessa on Friday, and one of them died, the city police department reports.
"A report came at 10:20 p.m. on June 26 that two members of a police patrol unit sustained gunshot wounds near the Arcadia beach in Odessa," it said.
It has been determined that the policemen were performing their patrolling duties, were in uniforms, and were carrying service weapons when they sustained gunshot wounds to their bellies caused by an unidentified individual.
The circumstances of the incident are being investigated.
Giorgi Lortkipanidze, the chief of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry department for the Odessa region, said on the Shuster Live TV talk show that one of the injured policemen died. "The patrol policemen stopped a young man and wanted to check him. The suspect opened fire. One policeman died on the spot and the other was injured," Lortkipanidze said.
