DPR negotiator Pushilin favors broader OSCE mandate in Donbas but expects backlash from Kyiv
DONETSK. June 28 (Interfax) - A broader mandate for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) mission in Donbas could be disliked by Ukraine, says Denis Pushilin, the authorized representative of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) at the Minsk talks.
"So far it is my subjective opinion that the OSCE mandate should be broadened. I think a broader mandate could become a factor of intensification in the peaceful resolution of the conflict (in eastern Ukraine) as it will enable OSCE representatives to register violations and name the violator in one voice. But I am not sure Ukraine will like that," Pushilin told reporters on Sunday.
The OSCE is a mediator whose role is to create a dialogue between the conflicting parties, he said
"They are interested in a peaceful resolution of the situation. Of course, one can say their job is key, but they are not the only peacekeeper in this situation. The role of the Russian Federation in the peaceful resolution of the conflict is certainly no less important. The support and the recommendations the Russians have provided us with is hugely important for us," Pushilin added.
