Moldova's Party of Socialists denies recognition to Chisinau mayoral election results
CHISINAU. June 29 (Interfax) - Moldova's Party of Socialists has denied recognition to the Chisinau mayoral election outcomes, Party of Socialists Chairman Igor Dodon has said.
He said at a press conference early on Monday morning that the Party of Socialists would challenge the ballot results because it had proof of falsification of the elections at many polling stations.
"The Liberals are celebrating too soon. They did not win the election but they 'drew' the result using administrative resources. Our jurists will challenge these results next morning," Dodon said.
Party of Socialists candidate Zinaida Greceanii thanked voters for their support. She also said that the ballot "results were far from being real."
"I am asking voters not to lose faith and to keep on fighting. We will stay together with our voters," Greceanii said.
According to the preliminary data posted after counting over 97% of votes, incumbent Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca gained slightly more than 53% of the vote in the second round of the mayoral elections, while Greceanii scored less than 47% of the vote.
