Damascus stands for forming of antiterrorism coalition in region but says this would be 'great miracle' - Syrian foreign minister

MOSCOW. June 29 (Interfax) - Syria is ready for the establishment of a coalition between regional countries and the United States to fight terrorism, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem has said.

"We would like to combine efforts very much," Muallem said at a press conference after negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held on Monday.

The Syrian foreign minister stressed the difficulty of pooling efforts in the antiterrorism fight.

"I am perfectly aware that President Putin and the Russia he leads have made total miracles, but it will take an even greater miracle to build a coalition with Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United States because these countries, instead of fighting terrorism, are encouraging terrorism in Syria, for instance in a financial way and with arms, and are spilling blood of the Syrian people," Muallem said.
