SCO members say security situation getting hard to predict - Shoigu
ST. PETERSBURG. June 30 (Interfax-AVN) - The situation in the responsibility zone of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is becoming less safe, Russian Defense Minister Army Gen. Sergei Shoigu told reporters on Tuesday after a meeting of the SCO defense ministers.
"Today we discussed the state of regional and global security, as well as possible joint steps to neutralize challenges and threats. A unanimous opinion was expressed that the situation in the Organization's responsibility zone is becoming less safe and hard to predict," Shoigu said.
He said there was a frank exchange of views on most important issues of international and regional security.
The attendees also discussed preparations for the SCO summit of heads of state in Ufa in July 2015, Shoigu said.
"It will summarize the final outcomes of our work during the Russian presidency in the Organization. Of course, in the present-day, difficult international situation, security issues are at the forefront because their resolution will have a bearing on the economic development dynamic of the SCO countries," Shoigu said.
The session is attended by delegations from the SCO member states (Kazakhstan Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan), as well as representatives from the SCO Secretariat and Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure.
