DPR, LPR attempts to hold separate elections in Donbas on Oct 18 to have destructive consequences - Poroshenko

LVIV. July 2 (Interfax) - Attempts to hold elections in territories in eastern Ukraine not controlled by Kyiv will mean Russia breaks agreements reached in Minsk, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said at a news conference on Thursday.

"The attempts to hold on October 18 illegitimate elections not meeting Ukrainian legislation and Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) criteria will mean a harsh attack of Russia on the Minsk agreements reached on February 12, 2015. I am certain that this will be extremely irresponsible and will have devastating consequences for the process of de-escalation of tension in certain regions of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions," Poroshenko said.

It has been reported that head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Alexander Zakharchenko scheduled local elections in the DPR for October 18, 2015.
