Chubais ready to testify in Rusnanotech case soon - lawyer

MOSCOW. July 3 (Interfax) - Lawyers for a former Rusnanotech chief, Leonid Melamed, hope Rusnano chief Anatoly Chubais will soon give evidence in the case against their client.

"Anatoly Borisovich Chubais is ready to testify in the case," Melamed's lawyer Ruslan Kozhura told the court on Friday.

Questioning can be expected in the very near future, he said.

It was reported earlier that Chubais had written a favorable character reference concerning Melamed to the court.

Basmanny Court is due to decide whether the former Rusnanotech chief should be remanded in custody or released on bail.

Russian Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin told Interfax earlier on Friday that investigators had asked the court to place Melamed under house arrest.
