Eleven countries seek membership or joining work of SCO
UFA. July 7 (Interfax) - Eleven countries, including Syria and Azerbaijan, want either to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) or participate in its work, Russian presidential adviser Anton Kobyakov said at a briefing.
"These are Cambodia, Syria, Bangladesh, Azerbaijan, India, Pakistan, Iran, Egypt, and Sri-Lanka," Kobyakov said when asked by a reporter to list the countries interested in cooperation with the SCO.
As of now, there are eleven applications to join the SCO and participate in its work, Kobyakov said earlier.
At the same time, the SCO currently has 28 documents regulating the procedure for joining the organization, Kobyakov said. "These regulations should be met first, before joining," he said.
