Ufa to host major intl events after SCO, BRICS summits - Khamitov

UFA. July 8 (Interfax) - Ufa will host a series of major international economic and scientific events after the SCO and BRICS summits, Bashkortostan head Rustem Khamitov said at a press briefing in Ufa on Wednesday.

"The schedule of large events to take place in Ufa this year is packed to capacity. The agenda is very busy until January," he said.

According to Khamitov, Ufa will play host to the 12th Russia-Kazakhstan Forum in September. The two chiefs of state will come to Ufa with large delegations consisting of government members and heads of regional authorities.

An interregional forum of small and medium businesses from SCO and BRICS member countries is planned to be held in October.

"This is our idea and our wish, by and large, to bring closer together SCO and BRICS countries in the field of interaction between small and medium business," the head of Bashkortostan said, adding that interaction between small and medium businesses of those countries had not been systematized yet.

Also, in October Ufa will host a congress of Russian philosophers with an approximate turnout of 3,000. "Philosophers are wise people who know where to work, and they have offered us to hold this congress in Ufa. We quite share their feelings, the city is ready, and there are platforms to accommodate their debates," he said.

A Eurasian humanitarian forum with an approximate turnout of 2,000-3,000 people is scheduled for December 2015.

Also "groundwork has been laid" for holding other large events in 2016-2018, Khamitov said.

SCO and BRICS summits will take place in Ufa on July 8-10.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a regional international organization founded in Shanghai in 2001. Currently, SCO unites Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

BRICS is a group of five states: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
