X5 retail boosts Q2 revenue 28.1% to 198.6 bln rubles

MOSCOW. July 13 (Interfax) - X5 Retail Group, which runs the Pyaterochka, Perekrestok and Karusel retail networks, boosted sales revenue 28.1% year-on-year in Q2 2015 to 198.62 billion rubles.

Life-for-like sales grew 15.6% as the average check rose 13% and customer traffic went up 2.2%, the company said in a statement.

The Q2 revenue growth was the highest since the third quarter of 2011. The retailer's main format, the Pyaterochka discount stores, saw revenue grow 33.5% year-on-year in Q2 2015 to 145.05 billion rubles.

Perekrestok revenue grew 11.9% to 31.29 billion rubles and Karusel - 14.2% to 19.42 billion rubles.

In June alone, X5 revenue rose 28.5% following growth of 28.5% in May and 27.4% in April. Pyaterochka sales rose 34.7%, 35.8% and 35.4% in the respective months.

Pyaterochka's LfL sales in Q2 2015 rose 18.6% as the average check grew 14.6% and traffic rose 3.5%.

Karusel raised LfL traffic 2.4% thanks to an enhanced marketing policy and expanded range of locally produced goods in the regions. Perekrestok's LfL traffic fell 4.2%.

In Q2 2015, X5 opened 332 new stores (161 in the same period of last year), including 315 Pyaterochka. Overall retail area grew 23.9% to 2.84 million m2 compared with June last year.

In H1 2015, X5 revenue grew 27.3% year-on-year to 368.68 billion rubles.

X5 Retail Group, Russia's second biggest retailer by revenue, had 5,971 stores at the end of June. These included 5,273 Pyaterochka, discount stores, 438 Perekrestok supermarkets, 83 Karusel hypermarkets and 177 express convenience stores.

Magnit , the country's biggest retailer, has said revenue growth slowed to 24.6% in June from 28.75 in May as inflation decelerated, the average check decreased as customers switched to less expensive goods and due to the comparative base last year.
