Lavrov to visit Uzbekistan

MOSCOW. July 14 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will pay a working visit to Uzbekistan on Wednesday to hold talks with the country's President Islam Karimov and Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

"The foreign-policy chiefs will discuss a broad range of issues concerning Russian-Uzbek cooperation on foreign policy and in trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian areas," the ministry said in a commentary posted on its website.

"Lavrov and Kamilov will also exchange their views on pressing regional and international issues," it said.

"Particular focus will be on coordination on multilateral platforms such as the CIS, Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the United Nations, the situation in Afghanistan, and countering the spread of terrorism and extremism," the ministry said.
