Kyiv claims 100 militia attacks on Ukrainian army positions over past day

KYIV. July 15 (Interfax) - The militia breached truce 100 times in Donbas on Tuesday, the Ukrainian army operation press center wrote on its Facebook page on Wednesday morning.

It said the militia conducted 19 attacks by use of 122mm artillery, 33 attacks by use of 120mm mortars, two attacks by rocket launchers, and 13 attacks by tanks.

Kyiv claimed most attacks happened in the period from 6 p.m. till midnight. The militia bombarded Ukrainian forces in the areas of Avdiivka, Opytne, Vodyane, Pisky, Kirove, Novhorodske and Luhanske.

In the Luhansk sector, the militia shelled Ukrainian army positions near Stanitsa Luhanska, Novotoshkivske, Krymske and Trekhizbenka. Only small arms were used in the Mariupol sector, near Talakivka and Mykolaivka.

The Ukrainian army was attacked by 122mm howitzers and 120mm mortars near Avdiivka, Opytne and Starohnativka as of 6 a.m. on Wednesday.

At around midnight the Ukrainian army "discovered and deterred" a sabotage-and-reconnaissance group of the militia near Opytne, Kyiv said.

The day before a representative of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) Republican Guard told Interfax that the Ukrainian army had begun a massive attack on residential areas in Horlivka.

"A massive attack on Horlivka has been on for more than two hours, they are using tube artillery with calibers of 100mm or larger, and tanks have joined in. The shelling is focused on the Yuzhna mine, in the Dzerzhinsk sector, the 6-7 residential area and the town of Michurine; rocket launchers have joined in," the source said.

In his words, the central city district, the fifth mine camp, Ozeryanivka, Hluboka and Mykytivka were under fire. "A tank is firing from the side of Mayorsk," the representative of the DPR Republican Guard said.
