Donetsk central districts come under attack - DPR Defense Ministry

DONETSK. July 18 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian army shelled central areas of the capital city of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) on Saturday.

"So far we are aware of two hits at 75, Universitetska Street and 69, Shchorsa Street (a five-storey house)," the Donetsk news agency has quoted DPR Defense Ministry senior official Eduard Basurin as saying at a press briefing on Saturday evening.

The news agency also cited a report by Donetsk Kuibyshevskyi district administration head Ivan Prikhodko, according to whom several shells hit city hospital No 23.

Basurin said that the Ukrainian army committed almost 50 violations of truce over the past day.

"Over the past day we observed 49 breaches of ceasefire by Ukraine," he said. In his words, the number of shelling incidents by use of heavy artillery and mortars is constantly growing.

Basurin also pointed out that the Ukrainian army had taken advantage of unilateral demilitarization of Shyrokyne by the DPR for shelling areas inside the republic's territory.

"All Ukrainian forces are staying exactly as they were," Basurin underlined. "Not to mention that they are shelling our populated areas inside the Donetsk Republic from those positions."
