Army aviation helicopters practicing in southern Russia

MOSCOW. July 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Army aviation crews have performed a number of combat traiming missions in southern Russia, the Russian Defense Ministry has said.

"While performing special assignments above highland woods and plains, crews practiced [provision of] fire support to attacking units and marching convoys, and transportation and landing of tactical airborne units, as well as delivery of ammunition and military cargo to remote parts of the woods and highlands," the Southern Military District press service said in a report received by Interfax on Monday.

The exercises involved over 10 army aviation helicopters, among them a Mil Mi-28N 'Night Hunter', a Mil Mi-24P, a Mil Mi-35 'Crocodile' and a Mil Mi-8AMTSh.

Helicopter crews met standards of detection and identification of various kinds of sites, mobile and immobile ground targets, armored vehicles, helicopters and low-flying, low-speed planes of a simulated enemy.

In addition, crews and ground services practiced the sequence of preparations to move aircraft to alternate and operative airfields, the report said.
