RVSN, Rosatom to conduct training

MOSCOW. July 20 (Interfax-AVN) - The Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) and the state corporation Rosatom will conduct a training exercise for special-purpose support to military units in the territory of the Central Military District on July 20-22.

"This training [exercise] will involve actions to deal with the aftermath of the consequences of emergencies with nuclear materials," the Russian Defense Ministry's press service and information department said in a report obtained by Interfax-AVN on Monday.

The purpose of the training is to check the readiness of military administration bodies, forces and equipment involved in dealing with the aftermath of emergencies involving nuclear materials. "The training will also study the process of joint administration in the organization of work to deal with the aftermath of emergencies for its further improvement and will practice modern approaches to actions on emergencies with nuclear materials," the press release says.

The training will also focus on issues relating to the delivery to large distances of Rosatom emergency and rescue units from Sarov, Nizhny Novgorod region, via military-transport planes, and issues relating to the use of Pomoshchnik-2 robotic systems composed of a drone and a ground robot, which are intended for the exploration, search and identification of sources of radiation and transmission in real-time mode via information channels from accident sites.

The training is conducted by the 12th Main Department of the Russian Defense Ministry, operating jointly with the Strategic Missile Forces and Rosatom. The maneuvers will involve emergency and rescue units of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry and federal and regional executive administration bodies, the Russian Defense Ministry has reported.
