Barley exports quadruple in 5M amid wheat export duty - Rosstat

MOSCOW. July 22 (Interfax) - Russia's export duty on wheat that was in effect from February 1 through May 15, 2015 led to a fourfold increase in barley exports in January-May, Rosstat reported on Wednesday.

Russia exported 4.329 million tonnes of wheat in 5M, 18.9% less than in the same period last year.

Barley exports jumped to 1.978 million tonnes in January-May and were up 230% to 303,000 tonnes in May alone, when the wheat export duty was only in effect for half the month.

Corn exports declined 28.5% to 1.601 million tonnes and sunflower exports fell 45.7% to 36,500 tonnes.

Rice exports increased, by 86.4% to 98,500 tonnes.

Russia exported 8.153 million tonnes of grain in 5M, 0.8% less than in the same period last year.

A new, adjustable wheat export duty came into effect on July 1, equal to 50% of the customs value minus 5,500 rubles per tonne, but not less than 50 rubles per tonne.
