Kazakhstan bans imports of fish products from Latvia, Estonia as well - Rosselkhoznadzor
MOSCOW. July 28 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan has joined the ban on fish product supplies from Latvia and Estonia, which Russia introduced on June 4, 2015.
The Kazakh veterinary control and surveillance committee has informed the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) that it has decided to introduce temporary restrictions on imports of ready-made fish and fish preserves produced in Latvian and Estonian fish production enterprises, Rosselkhoznadzor said.
The decision was made after Kazakh specialists considered reports of Rosselkhoznadzor experts following inspections held in May on Latvian and Estonian fish production enterprises. During the inspections violations of veterinary and sanitary demands of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) were found, such as the presence of benzapyrene and other harmful and dangerous substances.
The Russian watchdog is ready to consider lifting the ban on fish product imports once violations found are eliminated, Rosselkhoznadzor Deputy Head Nikolai Vlasov said at a news conference on Tuesday.
Fish supplies from Latvia and Estonia are currently banned in the framework of the food embargo introduced by Russia in August 2014 and extended for another year (the food embargo has not been applied to the import of fish preserves).
Rosselkhoznadzor has banned supplies from five Latvian enterprises starting from August 1.
